In a fast growing economy like India, the lack of sanitation
and hygiene is a massive challenge that we are facing today. Nationwide
awareness drives and government initiatives, particularly menstrual awareness
and hygiene are a much talked about topic. In the past few months, the
government’s responsibility towards the welfare of women’s hygiene and care is
indeed spectacular. We can say, these changes will go far, but certainly not
all the way unless there is a change in the attitude of the people.
Supreme Court (New
Delhi) provides sanitary napkin dispensers and incinerators
In an attempt to provide hope and comfort to 1000 plus women
staff and the ones visiting the court, the Supreme Court has set aside Rs 5
lakhs for installation of three sanitary napkin vending machines and three sanitary
napkin disposal machine in the premises. It is true, that menstrual hygiene is
crucial as it not only has an overall positive impact on their health but also
results in high self-esteem. After all, every woman deserves to have a dignified
period. Accessibilty to these sanitary napkin dispensers and incinerators is a
dream advantage for women

– providing dignity to women
The Swach Bharat Menstrual hygiene drive is widespread in
the country with its focus on awareness amongst the citizens and ecofriendly
options to dispose sanitary wastes with the use of incinerators. The University
Grant Commission has appealed to all educational institutions and women’s
hostels to install sanitary napkin dispenser and sanitary napkin burners for
their benefit. It is ‘we the people’ who have the power to change the country.
